Llueve sobre Babel
Synopsis
The afterlife takes on a seductive allure. The film is set in the Babel nightclub, a mysterious place where mortals come into contact with La Flaca—the personification of Death. In this enchanting setting, visitors attempt to outwit her by wagering years of their lives to achieve their personal goals. We follow characters such as Dante, who seeks answers about his past before his time with La Flaca runs out; Monet, whose body is slowly decaying as he tries to reclaim it; Timbí and Uma, who risk everything to save their loved ones; and Jacob, who balances between fear and freedom on the verge of his debut as a drag performer.
Steeped in mysticism, idiosyncratic charm, and an air of the absurd, the story unfolds in a world where gender diversity is the norm and existential themes—love, loss, faith, identity, and liberation—take center stage. The film weaves memories and destinies into a magical-realist universe where nothing is quite what it seems—from a talking salamander to wild, punk-infused production design. Visually, the film is a bold experiment brimming with whimsical details.
